QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND
Dana has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University. She has a total of 33 years in education, with her first three years as a second grade teacher at Newton Elementary. Dana's second grade teaching experience continued upon her employment at Kirbyville Elementary, where she served for 28 years. While working at Kirbyville Elementary, she was blessed with many opportunities to serve in different areas that included grade levels from pre-k to junior high. Her passion and dedication to quality education led to job opportunities which included reading interventionist, spelling U.I.L. coach, junior high cheerleading sponsor, reading coach, special program coordinator, testing coordinator, pre-k director, volunteer reading program coordinator, and her last three years as an assistant principal. Dana has co-directed and taught at CCA for the past 2 years.
WHY CCA?
While it was a difficult decision to leave the rewarding work Dana had known for many years, she chose to retire in 2021 to spend more time with family, especially her grand babies. Dana is beyond grateful for the doors God has opened for her and her talented daughter, Kylie, and allowing them to share God's love while providing an enjoyable, safe learning environment with high academic and behavioral expectations. Her vision is to establish a learning environment where students also gain knowledge of how much God loves them and the importance of being a caring, productive citizen.
Dana understands teaching children is a calling and a gift from God that should be taken very seriously. She knows the Lord has provided experiences and knowledge to prepare her for this path and is eagerly excited to watch God do an awesome work in the lives of all who are involved in Compass Christian Academy. Her prayer is for the school to grow and shine its light so brilliantly that people will have a burning desire to be a part of what God is doing and welcome Him and His ways into the education realm.
QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND
Kylie has a Bachelor of Life Science with a minor in Secondary Education from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Education in School Counseling from Lamar University. She has a total of 10 years of experience as an educator, 8 in the public school and 2 at CCA. Kylie is certified early childhood - twelfth grade. She has taught fifth, sixth, and eighth grade science, as well as intervention for kindergarten through fifth grade. She has co-directed and taught PreK at CCA for the past 2 years.
WHY CCA?
Kylie feels that her influence as an educator is a God-given gift and should be treated as such. She grew up watching her mom, Mrs. Brecht, have an impact on students that lasted a lifetime. Her mom taught second grade, but was invited to numerous graduations, weddings, and baby showers long after her students' time in second grade had ended. Kylie realized that there truly are few professions where you get the opportunity to make that kind of an impact and it's one of the reasons she followed in her mom's footsteps.
Kylie believes from her years in education and her own personal experience while in school that the most effective classrooms are those that have structure, high expectations, and genuine love for the students and teaching profession. She is beyond excited to get to create this environment at Compass Christian Academy while also teaching her students about Jesus and declaring His promises to them daily. She is most looking forward to starting each day worshipping God alongside her students and coworkers.
